Scuba diving, snorkeling and sport fishing
Puerto Morelos is a peaceful town with a laid-back ambiance.
It is basically located on a sand bar between a lagoon
and the beach. Just 100 yards from the beach, the beautiful
and spectacular “Mayan Reef” provides the best scuba-diving and snorkeling opportunities for both novice and experienced divers. The
Mayan Reef was declared a national park by the Mexican
government in 1999, in order to protect and preserve this
beautiful national treasure.
Scuba and snorkel trips to the reefs can be arranged with PADI certified professional divers as well as sport fishing trips. For these and for fishing trips and sea kayaking trips, please see the front desk or the travel agency.
Cenotes and Jungle tours
The entire Yucatan Peninsula is made of carbonate rocks (limestone),
and some portions of it have dissolved away as a result
of the interaction between rain water and organic matter,
thus creating sink holes (called cenotes) on the surface.
These cenotes are located in the middle of the jungle and
are filled with fresh water that is part of the hydrologic
system of the peninsula. A swim in the cenote’s pristine
waters will certainly be an unforgettable experience. Contact
the front desk or the travel agency for more information
about tours to visit the cenotes and the jungle.
