Mayan ruins: Tulum

Tulum:  The main structure, El Castillo (The Castle) built on a tall cliff facing the sea, and others of lesser importance are the remains of an important city of the post-Classical Mayan period (A.D. 900-1521).  A visit to these ruins is a must!

Mayan ruins: Uxmal
Uxmal: One of the largest Mayan sites is characterized by its beautiful and sophisticated architecture including the Sorcerer’s pyramid, the Nun’s quadrangle, the Governors Palace, and the stunning The Turtle’s House. There is a light and sound show every night.

Mayan ruins: Coba
Coba: This site, which is still under reconstruction, has the tallest Mayan building, the 43 meter (130 ft) high Nohoch Mul pyramid. Take hiking boots and be ready to explore this interesting site.

Scuba diving, snorkeling and sport fishing
Puerto Morelos is a peaceful town with a laid-back ambiance. It is basically located on a sand bar between a lagoon and the beach. Just 100 yards from the beach, the beautiful and spectacular “Mayan Reef” provides the best scuba-diving and snorkeling opportunities for both novice and experienced divers.  The Mayan Reef was declared a national park by the Mexican government in 1999, in order to protect and preserve this beautiful national treasure.

Scuba and snorkel trips to the reefs can be arranged with PADI certified professional divers as well as sport fishing trips. For these and for fishing trips and sea kayaking trips, please see the front desk or the travel agency.

Cenotes and Jungle tours

The entire Yucatan Peninsula is made of carbonate rocks (limestone), and some portions of it have dissolved away as a result of the interaction between rain water and organic matter, thus creating sink holes (called cenotes) on the surface. These cenotes are located in the middle of the jungle and are filled with fresh water that is part of the hydrologic system of the peninsula. A swim in the cenote’s pristine waters will certainly be an unforgettable experience. Contact the front desk or the travel agency for more information about tours to visit the cenotes and the jungle.

Xcaret
Xcaret Park is ca. 15 miles south of Puerto Morelos (on the Cancun-Tulum expressway) and promises its visitors a nature experience among the best of what this region has to offer. You and your family can swim with dolphins and in natural water springs, admire archeological sites, and take in Mayan shows with dances and light and sound effects during the night. A great experience!

Xel-ha
Xel-ha is located ca. 50 miles south of Puerto Morelos (on the Cancun-Tulum expressway) and is an ideal place to admire the great Mayan outdoors. Xel-ha or “where the water is born” in mayan, is a site where the merging of fresh and salt waters creates a series of caves, coves, inlets, lagoons and cenotes among mangroves and thick vegetation. A unique place to snorkel, swim, walk and admire nature.

Cancun
Cancun: This spectacular and world renowned city and tourist center offers the best shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation for people of all ages. It is just 20 miles away from Puerto Morelos.

Cozumel

Cozumel is a Scuba divers paradise. This island is only two hours away on the ferry from Puerto Morelos.
