Puerto Morelos is located on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan peninsula, and is only 20 miles south of Cancun and 15 miles from the International Airport.

How to get to Puerto Morelos and Posada el Moro

Puerto Morelos is only 15 miles south of the international Airport in Cancun (see map above) and you can get there conveniently by car, bus or taxi :

RENTAL CAR

If you rent a car at the airport, go to the airport exit and drive two miles to the east to the intersection with the Cancun-Tulum expressway.

1. At the intersection, you turn right (south) towards Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos.

2. After driving about 15 miles on the expressway, you will enter a populated area, and you will see a traffic light and a big sign welcoming you to Puerto Morelos.

3. Turn left (east) at the light and onto a two lane road which passes through a lagoon before it reaches the town of Puerto Morelos after one and a half mile.

4. The first buildings you pass are municipal offices and the police headquarters. Just before the Town Square (zocalo), turn left on Av. Javier Rojo Gomez and after around 50 yards you will see Hotel Posada el Moro.

BUS

If you feel adventurous and travel light, you should try the available ADO bus and taxi service. At the Cancun international airport, there is bus service to Playa del Carmen (with stops along the road, including Puerto Morelos). Ask in the airport information desk about the bus to Playa del Carmen and they will direct you to the appropriate bus terminal.

1. The bus ride is comfortable and safe. All the buses are new, have air conditioning, and the drivers do not allow overcrowding.

2. The bus fee to Puerto Morelos is around four dollars (40 pesos) per person and buses depart about every hour.

3. The bus will take you to the Puerto Morelos bus stop on the Cancun-Tulum expressway, from where there are taxis that will take you directly into town and to Hotel Posada el Moro for two dollars (20 pesos).

TAXI

Please check with taxi information booths at the airport for their fees. Taxi rides from the international airport to Puerto Morelos may cost between $US60 and $US80.

TAXI SERVICES IN PUERTO MORELOS

In Puerto Morelos there are taxis that you can hire for full days or for round trips to anywhere in the Riviera Maya. Fees for these services are established by the taxi association. The front desk at Posada el Moro will help you with these services, or you can arrange your trips directly with the taxi drivers.
